built as a part of the flood protection system in St. Petersburg.

Work started: November 2005; work completed: August 2007.

The full length of the bridge crossing with the access embankments is 1,483 meters. The length of each trestle section is 486 meters. The draw span is 122 meters long. The bridge draw span can be raised by 9 meters to allow the passage of vessels via the navigable pass when necessary to provide a vertical navigable clearance of 25 meters.

The project involves:

  • replacing bearing elements,
  • repairing and building pillars,
  • installing new ferroconcrete span structures,
  • installing mechanical equipment,
  • epairing and assembling the metal span structurer,
  • roadwork.

Strand jacks were used for the first time in Russian road building practice to hoist the 2,000-ton metal span structure to a height of more than 22 meters. The specialists of VSL Ltd, Switzerland, were enlisted in the hoisting operations due to their vast experience lifting and moving especially heavy structures and gave a good account of themselves in a joint cooperation with the Russian bridge builders at a number of sites. Machinery made available by the company was used in the hoisting operations.

Cranes Hitachi KH500L with a payload of 100 tons, KАТО NK-500E-V with a payload of 50 tons, RDK-250-2 TAKRAF with a payload of 25 tons, and strand jacks SLU-330/200F with a payload of 330 tons were used for an enlarged site assembly and installation of the span structures.
