Stay Cable Bridge on Adler - "Alpika-Service" Mountain Resort Route in Sochi

The motorway stay cable bridge is located at the 25th kilometer Adler "Alpika-Service" Mountain Resort combined motorway and railway (Picket235+88).

The work started in June 2010 and completed in 2013.

Bridge design: 43.85+120+312+120+64.5+84+63 m.
The stay cable system design: 120+312+120 m.

The bridge has reinforced concrete pylons that are 80-meters high, having 1.5-meter diameter bored piles that are 27-meters long, 16 each under each pylon leg. The continuous all-steel span structure was assembled on building ways. The span structure was installed into the design position by launching.

The route centerline within the bridge runs along oppositely curved arcs of circle of 2400-meters and 600-meters radii. The limiting overall dimension for traffic in a single lane in each direction is 10 meters.

The span deck stiffening girder is configured in the cross-section as two box-type girder sections that are 2400-mm deep, which are tied up to each other by means of orthotropic slabs. Cross-beams are installed on the pillars, and anchor pad bearing cross-pieces are installed in the spans.

The stay cable system consists of two inclined stay cable webs, which are anchored in the outside wall of the box-shaped sections. The stay cable webs are fan-shaped and each of them consists of 7 stay cables running in each direction away from the pylons, along the axes of pillars No. 5 and No. 6.

LIEBHER lifting cranes with customized height, boom length, and lifting capacity were used for installation of the bridge stay cable system and for erecting the upper parts of the pylons. The two tower cranes that were 84-meters high, for the lifting capacity of 10 and 40 metric tons, respectively, had been manufactured in Germany on a special order for construction of the stay cable bridge in Sochi.

Updated information on construction of the combined motor and rail road Adler - Alpika- Service Mountain Resort station is posted on the website http://www.skmost2014.com/
