The double-track railway tunnel is located at the 45th kilometer of the Olympic route.
Construction began in the 2nd quarter of 2009 with completion in the 3rd quarter of 2011.
The tunnel, which is 433-meters long, has been driven under challenging geotechnical conditions using state-of-the art mining machines and tunnel backhoes. The tunnel has been driven since October 2009 until November 2010 simultaneously from the northern and southern tunnel entries. BTS-Gidrostroy Company, which is part of the SK MOST Group of Companies, started construction of the permanent tunnel lining in August 2010, and the job was completed in August 2011.
A special soil consolidation method, Jet Grouting, was used because of a non-uniform make-up the weak rocks within the section of the northernmost tunnel of the Adler – Alpika-Service Combined Motorway/Railway Route.
Railway Tunnel No.6 is now the third transport tunnel and fifth underground working driven by the SK MOST Group of Companies as part of Adler – Alpika-Service Route construction project.
