Railway construction / Bridge across the Prokhladnaya River

Railway bridge across the Prokhladnaya River

The Bridge is at the 17th kilometer of the Kaliningrad – Bagrationovsk section of the Kaliningrad railway.
Work started: December 2006; Work completed: May 2008.

The new single-span bridge has been built in place of an old 3x13.4 m bridge. The new span is 66 m long, with a metal truss and track on ballast-free ferroconcrete slabs.

The project involves installing unloading packets 12 meter long; slots in embankments for building abutments for a new bridge; installing a pile screen; building pile foundations made of 530 mm metal pipes; building solid abutments; installing the new span using the semi-cantilevering method on a parallel axis; dismantling the old arc brick bridge; transverse sliding of the new span; dismantling temporary unloading packets, dismantling the pile screen; earth heaping, planning and paving embankment cones, installing stairs on embankment slopes.

Excavators Hitachi and JCB with a hydraulic hammer were used to dismantle the old brick bridge. The new span was slid on temporary supports using hydraulic jack with a payload of 100 tons.
