Railway construction / Construction of a bridge over the Moscow River and Shmitovsky Way Overpass

Construction of a bridge over the Moscow River and Shmitovsky Way Overpass

The new bridge is under construction between the Testovskaya and Fili stations, at the 6th kilometer of the Moskva-Passazhirskaya – Ussovo section of the Moscow railway. The railway overpass is located at the picket 45+79.10 of the Moscow – Fili section of the railway.

The bridge and the overpass are built as part of the project "Speed Increase in Moskva-Passazhirskaya – Ussovo Section of the Moscow Railway."

Work started in November 2013; work is to be completed in November 2014.

Scope of Operations:

  • Building the bridge across the Moscow River;
  • Building the Shmitovsky Way overpass.

Building the Bridge across the Moscow River

The bridge across the Moscow River will be a double-track railway arch bridge. Design: 33.6+31.7+116.0м+31.7 m; the overall length of the bridge is of 213 meters. The bridge will have steel span structures, with half-sunk ballasted deck. The bridge will have cast-in-place reinforced concrete pillars and abutments, with the footing made of 1.5-meter diameter drilled piles.

The Bauer BG-36 Drilling Rig was used to put in place the drilled piles. The RDK-250 Lifting Crane was used to handle the casing pipes, reinforcement cages, and concrete-chute pipes. The span structure will be installed using the LIEBHERR LTM 1400 Lifting Crane.

Shmitovsky Way Overpass

A double-track steel overpass is built over Shmitovsky Way Design: 19+21 m; the total length is of 49.5 meters. The overpass will have cast-in-place reinforced concrete pillars and abutments. The abutment footings are made of 0.6-meter diameter drilled piles that are 8 to 13 meters long; the pillar footings are made of 0.5-meter diameter drilled piles that are 5.5 meters long. The overpass will have a ballasted lower-deck continuous steel girder span structures. The span structures will be installed by launching.

The construction work is performed in the midst of a heavily developed urban area, close to an existing utilities duct, with partial traffic closure through Shmitovsky Way.
